ALASKA KING SALMON FISHING

The King Salmon fishing season on the Kenai River begins around the 10th of May and ends on the 31st of July. The Kenai River is world renown for producing the largest strain of King Salmon in the world. In most of Alaska's rivers a 50 LB King Salmon is a trophy, but not on the Kenai River. Here it takes a fish tipping the scales at 75 lbs. to be a trophy. The average King Salmon is between 30 and 50 lbs., with lots of fish in the 50's and 60's and a few in the 70 and 80 LB range.

Alaska King Salmon
During July, a second run of Sockeyes (Red Salmon) enter the Kenai River by the thousands. The limit on these is usually three per day, but for the last couple of years the Alaska Department of Fish & Game has allowed six per day to help prevent over escapement. We offer combo trips in July targeting King Salmon in the morning and Reds in the afternoon. Call and make your reservations early to get one of these days.
Ten miles south of the Kenai is the Kasilof River; a beautiful glacier fed river which is fished from drift boats only. The run starts coming alive at the end of May and runs until July 31. The King Salmon on the Kasilof average from 18 - 50 lbs. This river is well known for producing lots of feisty salmon and the scenery along the way will amaze you.
